-       Shearing          - Work Piece material separated into two parts



-       Blanking           -  A piece of sheet metal is removed from a work piece.This

removed piece is not scrap, it is the useful part.

- Fine blanking



- Conventional blanking

-       Punching         - Removing material as scrap  








- Piercing (Cylindrical punch)

- Slotting (Rectangular punch

- Perforating (large number of punch in a single operation)

- Notching (Punching the edge of a sheet)

- Nibbling (Punching a series of small overlapping a holes along a path to

                  cutout a larger contoured shape)

- Lancing (Creating a partial cut in the sheet)

- Slitting (Cutting straight lines in the sheet)

- Parting (Separating a part from work piece)

- Cutoff (Separating a part from work piece, without producing any scrap) 

- Trimming (Punching away excess material from the perimeter of sheet )

- Shaving ( shearing the excess of the work piece for better finishes )

- Dinking (A hollow punch in a work piece)
