Study 3
Project Halftecture O is one of the series of three public restrooms planned at Osaka castle hill,Osaka ,Japan. The plan makes sure both the convenience of the utility and the sculptural qualities which blends with the ambience of the park are balanced.
The materiality of the primary structure, roof, walls are constructed using weathered steel plates, the rusted surface of the material fits into the artful environment and the steel alloy oxidizes and prevents the corrosion. The very material acts as connecting material when its nature is exploited by welding and the whole structure has untraceable use of fasteners.
Refined composition of glistening porcelain, stone and metal finishes gives an contrasting look to the structure.
The catanary curve form of the roof underlies the stability of the structure and as well as the design's architectural significance.
Abertswyth arts centre has intended to provide low cost facilities for sixteen start up art organisations. as the set was planned to be part of the woods 8 smaller studios placed among the tree was planned.
the overall structure was a shed like studio split in the middle for ventilation and bright light
the materiality of this plan included a thin cladding material durable and resistant to weather. steel was the choice though problematic about the cost, thin sheet requirements would abide the cost effectivity.it could be easily dented and crinkled steel foil would scintillate upon the forest surrounding
these eight buildings are elevated off the sloping site by 15 concrete piers.the cladding was installed like giant pieces of metal
siding, starting at the lowest part of the wall, then overlapping each new layer over the upper edge of the preceding layer. this makes it watertight. a rigid thermosetting polyurethane was sprayed into the cladding's inner surface
overall the studios are made in a contemporary style and are cost effective .
