 Galvanic Action 

  • Before getting into galvanic action we need to know about the galvanic series which has least noble metals in the left to most noble metals in the right
  • When two metals are in contact the current passes through anode(most noble) to cathode(least noble) in the galvanic series and the metal in the higher end will corrode

Co-efficient of thermal expansion

  • Expansion or reduction of metal with respect to shape in different temperatures

Tensile Strength

  • The maximum ability of metal to withhold stress

Yield Strength

  • The maximum ability of metal to exhibit elasticity

Reflectivity

          p(y)=Gr(y)/Gi(y)

  • p is the reflectivity
  • y is the wavelength of the light
  • Gr is the reflected radiation
  • Gi is the incident radiation

Oil canning

  • The deformation of bulging on flat steel sheets is known as oil canning

Prevention

  • choice of material
  • thicker/higher quality of material 
  • blocker rod
  • skilled labor

Nut,bolt,pin and rivet are used in joining of steel

Steel composition

  • mild steel-0%-0.25% of carbon
  • medium carbon steel-0.25%-0.6% of carbon
  • high carbon steel-0.6%-1.5% of carbon

  • Ferritic

  • Duplex stainless steel
