Durgapur steel plant is one of the five integrated steel plants os STEEL AUTHORITY OF INDIA (SAIL).

TYPE: public sector undertaking
CEO: AV Kamalkar
FOUNDED: 1959 under British collaboration
GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION:
 It is situated on the banks of the Damodar River in the Paschim Bardhaman district in the growing industrial city of Durgapur. 
CAPACITY:
 The plant started production with an initial crude steel capacity of 1 MPTA .

The present capacity of the plant is:

  • Hot Metal: 2.4 MTPA
  • Crude Steel: 2.2 MTPA
  • Saleable Steel: 2.12 MTPA

CONTRIBUTION TO REGION'S DEVELOPMENT:

Durgapur Steel Plant is playing a major role in encouraging and developing small-scale industries in the region.DSP has contributed in a major way that has produced social, environmental, and economic benefits to the communities in which it operates,  in the areas of education, providing medical and health care facilities, village development, access to water facilities, infrastructural development.
