CASE STUDY
“I appreciated the artfulness of this piece and
that the steel made both a surround and a statement. It has a kind of quietness
which will only increase over time. And I love the sense of being both open and
closed.”

CASE STUDY ON TRAIL RESTROOM
Project: Trail Restroom
Location: Austin, Texas
The aim was to provide a space that acts as an escape hole from the very
busy and crowded place Austin. The structure to be designed should complement
the trail and the landscape.
The structure consists of 49 ¾” thick vertical Corten steel plates. The
panels are arranged along the spine throughout the trail leading to the
restroom. And plates are staggered in plan to keep in control the views and to
also allow the penetration of light.
This structure is created in a simple way that it requires minimal
maintenance.
The plates act as free standing elements that are connected to the foundation
and corten roof of the restroom
Flooring : Concrete (inside), Orange hued crushed granite (exterior)
Steel plates of various heights give naturalistic appearance allowing light
and air to pass between them.
CASE STUDY 2
Kunst Depot, Henze & Ketterer Art Gallery
Located in Wichtrach, Switzerland.
This design has a simple floor plan. And the basic
intention was to create an art gallery.
But it acts as a storage unit for artwork, doubles as
a showroom and also used for display of artwork giving three meaningful usages
It is designed such that there is a lesser risk of
water entering into the building from climatic conditions causing damage to the
artwork.
Irregular steel sheets are used.
The heavy concrete and masonry structural system is
wrapped by 7" of mineral wool
insulation covered with a coloured fiberglass air and water barrier, under the
perforated steel cladding. This creates a ventilated enclosure system to
maintain the art collection inside the Depot in a controlled microclimate.
Thank you.
