ARCHITECTURALLY EXPOSED STRUCTURAL STEEL CATEGORY-4

WHAT'S AESS 4?

AESS 4-  SHOWCASE ELEMENTS
AESS 4 focuses on the sculptural nature of the steel. Suitable for “showcase or dominant” elements – used where the designer intends that the form is the only feature showing in an element.

CHARACTERISTICS:
  • All welds are ground and filled edges are ground square and true.
  • All surfaces are sanded/filled.
  • Tolerances of fabricated forms are more stringent
  • All surfaces to be “glove” smooth.

FABRICATION AND ERECTION OF AESS 4:
  • Contouring and blending of welds-to have a smooth seamless finish
  • Minimize Weld Show Through- to avoid distortion.
  • Open holes shall be filled with weld metal or body filler- Where holes must be cut in the web at the interSection with flanges on W shapes and structural tees to permit field welding of the flanges, they shall be filled with joint filler.
QUALITY OF FINISH:

The smooth and contoured appearance of welds enhances the style of the more plastic look of AESS 4 components. This higher level of care and detail allows for glossy coats on steel to be a truly successful aesthetic in close view range.

DISADVANTAGE:

  • More labor and time is often necessary during fabrication and erection to achieve the quality of AESS 4 compared to other categories.
  • Fabrication and finishes of AESS 4 is costly
  • skilled laborers and specialized engineers required.
