What
brought everyone’s eye on BSP
One of the major government
orders that Bhilai Steel Plant received was R260 order. It was for Indian
Railways department. R260 rail sections are made of Chromium Vanadium Steel
Alloy. It allows the rails to travel on it at a speed of 260 km/hour. They are
more Long, ductile, hard and strong than the normal rail sections to carry
heavy load without any welding for long distances.
Accidents
Some of the accidents that occurred in Bhilai Steel Plant recently
are as mentioned below: -
·
(May 24, 2019) A major fire broke
out from coke oven even though there was no causality reported.
·
(Jan 3, 2020) Six workers
including a senior officer had fallen ill after inhaling the leaked toxic gas
from the blast furnace.
·
(Jan 5, 2020) An electrician had
sustained severe burns after hot metal had spilled on him over coke oven.
·
(Jan 8, 2020) A contract worker
was crushed to death after he was trapped between 2 couplings when he was
trying to fix it.
Back to back 3 accidents in a week’s time was a disastrous. A major cause
of this is poor maintenance and lack of proper inspection. There is no checking
from the government’s side because of preferences due to political
relationships. Anyhow, the loss is for the workers.
