AESS ( Custom )

ARCHITECTURALLY EXPOSED STRUCTURAL STEEL ( AESS )

Architecturally exposed structural steel is that has been purposefully left exposed which is part of the architectural aesthetic of the space.

AESS is divided into five category :

      1) AESS 1

      2) AESS 2

      3) AESS 3

      4) AESS 4

      5) AESS Custom

AESS Custom :

  • Aess-C was created to allow for a completely custom selection of any of the characteristics or attributes that were used to define the other categories.
  • It would allow complete flexibility in the design of the steel, but require high level of communication between architect, engineer and fabricator.
  • The premium for this type would cost from 20% - 250% over normal steel.
  • The unusual areas of concern for AESS Custom projects might include:
    • Oversized members
    • Extraordinary geometries
    • Curved members
    • Accessibility issues
    • Unusual finish requirements
    • High level of grinding and filling for connections
    • Transportation problems associated with member size
    • Extra care needed to protect prepainted components.
