BLOG 3: STEEL MATTERS- DEMAND LESS
OVERVIEW
"STEEL- THE DIGITAL ERA"
In today's world, buildings from skyscrapers to industries rely on steel.
Steel is one of the most widely used material in construction and industries.
The next question will be,
"Is steel a sustainable material?"
Yes, steel is a sustainable material. A material that satisfies the requirements for building construction is steel.
Steel is the most recycled material available worldwide. There is no limit in recycling the material. This cycle allows the steel to remain permanently accessible material through recycling.
Each time the steel product is recycled into a new product and the properties of the steel are retained.
It enables energy efficiency in buildings. Lightweight steel construction provides low-energy, thermally responsive buildings that are more efficient in construction.
Steel is 100% recyclable. The main factor is that the steel we purchase today contains at least 25% recycled steel.
Steel minimizes waste in construction and recycles waste matters. It minimizes site impacts, noise, etc. Shorter construction time results in earlier occupancies and lower financing costs.
Steel buildings are adaptable to future demands. Steel doesn't lose its strength because it is strong and sturdy. At the same time, they are flexible.
High ductility is an important character for resisting earthquakes. The qualities of steel allowed faster and cheaper construction.
The investment in making steel is not wasted because steel is only used and not consumed.
It eliminates the inner support, achieving wider inner spaces. It requires high-quality workmanship.
Prefabrication increases mass production. It can be reused after the parts are disassembled.
"STEEL MATTERS- DEMANDS LESS"
Steel provides long-term durability and increases the life span of the building.
"Is steel environmentally friendly?”,
My answer is, YES.
If some other material is invented that provides steel’s strength at steel’s low cost, it is the best material that we have–and it is as environmentally friendly as we can make it!
