Manufacture and Properties Of Steel - Blog 2 - Yukta Yogeesh

Today's session basically started with the basics. Yeah basically, the basics of some basic words were introduced XD These basic words were important to understand the manufacture and properties of Steel - Mineral, Rock, Ore, Metal and Alloy 


Steel can be manufactured by 2 methods - Oxygen process and electric arc furnace process


When it comes to Properties, steel has less compressive strength and high tensile strength. necking occurs after bending before rupture/fracture/breaking (if more load is applied even if it has reached its maximum deformation strain), after it crosses the yielding point. 

Universal testing machine can be used to test strength and Rockwell hardness test, Vicker test and Brinell tests can be used to test the hardness of steel. 

Due to the above mentioned properties, it has the following Advantages - 

Easy to repair
Resists high load 
Easy to transport (Assemble/Reassemble/Dismantle)
Pre-Fabrication
Long life - Homogeneous strength/composition 
Strengthened by additional sections 
Inspection is easy and quick
