INTRODUCTION TO STEEL- CLASS 1 = 14-08-2020
• steel is just another type of iron alloy, but it has a much lower carbon content than cast and wrought iron and other metals are often added to give it extra properties
• IT is to make strong substance made of iron and carbon, to make something strong or tough
• steelmaking involves
• casting – steel is melted and poured into mould
• forging - shaping of steel using compressive forces
• rolling – steel is passed in to rollers to have a uniform thickness
• drawing - drawn product with accurate tolerances, favorable grain structure, improved material properties and good surface finish.
• extruding - forced to flow through a die of a smaller cross sectional area, thus forming the work to the new cross section
• Main uses of steel
• It is used in construction of road, railways, infrastructure and buildings
