BLOG 2 -STEEL ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN
HEYYY ALL!!!
I'm back again..so let's get into my second blog. I wasn't able to attend the class but I was able to get an idea about what was taught.
so basically this post is gonna be my interpretation from what I read and understood from other blogs.
Let's talk about the four terms;
ROCKS- Made up of two or more minerals
MINERALS- composed of same substance throughout
ORE- A mineral occurring in sufficient quantity and containing enough metal to Permit its recovery and extraction at points.
METAL- An alloy of two or more metallic elements.
Moving on to the manufacturing process,
The raw materials used are Iron ore, Coke (fuel ), Limestone. These raw materials are further processed to make steel. There are two methods of processing steel,
THE OXYGEN PROCESS - This process is done by inducing pressurized oxygen into the furnace, which contains pig iron. This process produces lot of heat.
THE ELECTRIC ARC FURNACE- This process is done using electric current where carbon electrodes are used to obtain steel. This method produces stainless steel.
Now that the steel is produced, let's discuss about its properties
Plastic deformation and Elasticity
Ductility
Hardness
Tension
Before the steel is put in use , some tests are to be done,
ROCKWELL HARDNESS TEST - to ensure the hardness of the material
BRINNEL AND VICKER TEST
okay, that's I have , to share.
Hoping to learn more in further classes.
until then, bye!
