STEEL DAY 2
After the brief introduction given on day 1, we were taught about the process of turning IRON TO STEEL which involves two methods
The Oxygen Process and The Electric Arc Furnace Process.
There were reveals one on one making it interesting. And also a few puzzles .
Steel having been said the STRONGEST architectural material gets CORRODED and is DUCTILE.
It's EASY to WORK with yet LUSTROUS.
Every element or a metal has it's unique property along with its disadvantages. Steel also being one of the primary element in the architecture field has yet another PROPERTIES such as its strength, durability or long life. Its assembling process is also made much easier compared to other elements as such .
Moving onto more properties of steel, steel is said to have more elasticity, as in , when load is applied to it , it bends and when the same load is removed, steel having high elasticity remains in the same position when the load was applied.
And when its compressed to a maximum extent, it fractures in two different ways. Being BRITTLE and DUCTILE.
Coming to know of the fact that steel can resist pressure , it is put into a test to get checked of its hardness, that is the amount of pressure that it can resist and finally undergo a change in its shape.
So the hardness of steel is checked by three different tests
THE ROCHWELL HARDNESS TEST
THE BRINELL TEST &
THE VICHER TEST.
It's quite interesting to see how iron is processed into a steel which would be diagrammatically shown in the upcoming blogs.
