Shaping and finishes of steel blog5

There are five methods for shaping of steel

  • Tempering- to increase strength, hardness and ductility, it is achieved by heating and controlled cooling process
  • Annealing- cold working, cutting and forming heating and cooling it very slowly to make steel soft
  • Galvanization- to prevent rusting zinc coating is done

Natural factors affecting steel

  • Temperature-steel might contract and expand
  • Precipitation- change in properties may occur if its not treated properly and drenched in water for long
  • Humidity- corrosion

Finishes

  • Acid etching- certain portion is dipped in acid and the rest is exposed
  • Painting - increases visibility
  • Enameling- to provide vitrified find by coating ceramic
  • Metallic coating- coating with copper or tin
  • Electropolishing- to reduce surface roughness
